Restoration of sight from the mechanical eye

A man who lost his sight 30 years ago says he has been able to see the rays of light with the help of a machine eye. Rawn, 73, underwent an experimental bionic eye transplant a few months ago at Morfield Eye Hospital in London.

He said that now with the help of this eye called Argus II, he can see white lines on the road and can also distinguish between socks.

In the process, the lens is fitted with a camera and video processor that transmits the images wirelessly to a receiver near the eye. This receiver transmits the information received through a small wire to the electrons on the sensitive screen behind the cornea. These electrons carry information to the brain.

The machine eye is developed by an American company SecondSite. So far, 18 patients around the world have had the eye. The mechanical eye will be useful for patients like thighs whose eyelids have been damaged due to an inherited disease.

An estimated 20,000 to 25,000 people in the UK are affected by the disease..

Ron said he hadn’t seen anything for 30 years. The doctor who operated on the thigh said that the patients have started seeing pictures with this machine eye..
